MAY is NEW ZEALAND MUSIC MONTH!
During the month of May we celebrate NZ Music on our screens, radios, venues, schools etc.
We have some amazing New Zealand singers, songwriters and musicians.

How many can you and your family name?

Did you come up with these names?
Lorde
Split Enz
Dave Dobbyn
Crowded House

Below are some top NZ songs from the last few years. How about having a karaoke session or a disco with the people in your bubble.
Don't dream it's over - Crowded House
Loyal - Dave Dobbyn
Counting the Beat - The Swingers [This is our slower version of 'Rhythm 7 - can you teach your family?]
Six months in a leaky boat - Split Enz [Have a look at a few music video clips from this group - check out their zany hair, make up and costumes!]
Slice of Heaven - Dave Dobbyn and Herbs
April sun in Cuba - Dragon [This our fast version of 'Rhythm 7' - good luck!]

Choose a song and listen to it. You may like to do some art using something mentioned in the lyrics.

COMPOSITION CHALLENGE - anyone can be a composer/singer/music artist!!
Choose a well known tune [eg] Rpw, row, row your boat, Happy Birthday the ABC song...
Change the words to fit the tune. Your song could be about activities you've done in your bubble, your favourite sport/hobby, etc.
Good luck!!

Music ideas - term 2 week 2

Some stories / songs by NZer Kath Bee.

A programme about the orchestra with music, games, activities etc.

The New Symphony Orchestra plays individual instruments and talks about their role in the orchestra. More instruments are added each week.

An activity with lots of ideas from simple to more complex about making  a 'Music Wall' from household items.

Making an instrument can be as simple as using a yoghurt container, some dry rice or pasta and sticky tape to make a maraca. This site has  great ideas for making a range of homemade instruments.
